Maine Lighthouses 

Whaleback Light
Location: Portsmouth, NH
Nearest Town: Kittery, ME
Accessibility: Can be seen from many spots on shore, including Fort McClary and Fort Foster in Kittery, Fort Constitution in Portsmouth, NH, and Great Island Common in New Castle, NH. The lighthouse is accessible only by boat and is closed to the public.
Characteristic: two white flashes every 10 seconds
Fog Signal: two blasts every 30 seconds

Boon Island Light
Location: about 8 miles off the coast of York, ME
Nearest Town: York, ME
Accessibility: Can be seen distantly from points alon the shore, including Sohier Park in York, ME but it is best seen by boat. Access is by boat only, and it is very difficult to land at the island. The tower is not open to the public.
Characteristic: flashing white every five seconds
Fog Signal: one blast every 10 seconds

Cape Neddick (Nubble) Light
Location: Cape Neddick, ME, near entrance to York River
Nearest Town: York, ME
Accessibility: Follow Nubble Road from Route 1A in York near Long Sands Beach. There is free parking at Sohier Park with an excellent view of the lighthouse.
The lighthouse and grounds are not open to the public.
Characteristic: Three seconds red alternating with three seconds darkness
Fog Signal: One blast every 10 seconds

Goat Island Light
Location: Cape Porpoise Harbor
Nearest Town: Kennebunkport, ME
Accessibility: Goat Island is accessible by boat only. The island and lighthouse are not open to the public except by special arrangement.
Characteristic: flashing white every six seconds
Fog Signal: one blast every 15 seconds

Wood Island Light
Location: mouth of Saco River
Nearest Town: Biddeford Pool, ME
Accessibility: Wood Island can be reached by boat only. The island and lighthouse are not open to the public, except through tours run by the Friends of Wood Island Lighthouse.
Characteristic: alternating white and green flashes every 10 seconds
Fog Signal: two blasts every 30 seconds

Cape Elizabeth Light
Location: entrance to Casco Bay
Nearest Town: Cape Elizabeth, ME
Accessibility: The keeper’s house is privately owned; the lighthouse and grounds are not open to the public. Views are available from the nearby parking area near Two Lights Lobster Shack.
Characteristic: sequence of four white flashes every 15 seconds
Fog Signal: two blasts every 60 seconds

Portland Head Light
Location: Portland Harbor/Casco Bay
Nearest Town: Cape Elizabeth, ME
Accessibility: There is free parking at the lighthouse and a museum is in the keeper’s house. The lighthouse tower is not open to the public.
Characteristic: flashing white every four seconds
Fog Signal: one blast every 15 seconds

Ram Island Ledge Light
Location: Portland Harbor/Casco Bay
Nearest Town: Cape Elizabeth, ME
Accessibility: The lighthouse is not open to the public and is accessible by boat only. The best views are from the area around Portland Head Light.
Characteristic: two white flashes every six seconds
Fog Signal: one blast every 10 seconds

Spring Point Ledge Light
Location: west side of Portland Harbor
Nearest Town: South Portland, ME
Accessibility: There is parking by the Portland Harbor Museum and the public may walk out on the breakwater to the lighthouse. The lighthouse is closed to the public except for occasional open houses.
Characteristic: flashing white every six seconds
Fog Signal: one blast every 10 seconds

Portland Breakwater Light
Location: Portland Harbor
Nearest Town: South Portland, ME
Accessibility: There is free parking near the lighthouse at Bug Light Park in South Portland. The lighthouse is not open to the public.

Halfway Rock Light
Location: Casco Bay
Nearest Town: South Harpswell, ME
Accessibility: The lighthouse can be reached by boat or helicopter only, and landing
a boat is very difficult. The lighthouse is not open to the public.

Seguin Island Light
Location: mouth of Kennebec River
Nearest Town: Georgetown, ME
Accessibility: The island is open to private boaters and there are cruises available from Bath, Freeport and Popham Beach. The lighthouse is open for occasional tours.
Characteristic: fixed white
